Privacy
ByBike has no account, no ads and no analytics. Your location is used on your phone and does not leave it, unless you mail us a problem with a ride yourself. This page says what does go over the network, and who sees it.

Who we are
ByBike is made by Frederik De Bleser. Send questions about privacy to hello@bybike.club.
Your location
The app asks for your location to show where you are, to plan from there and to follow your ride. It is used on your phone only. ByBike sends it to no one, us included. Only when you report a problem with a ride yourself (below) do you mail us a few minutes of it.
Outside a ride the app uses your location only while it is on screen. During a ride it goes on using it while the phone is locked, so the directions keep coming; iOS then shows a blue indicator. When the ride ends, so does that.
You can turn location off in Settings › ByBike. Planning from a place you search still works.
What stays on your phone
Your trip (the stops, the kind of route and your settings), your recent searches, and the regions you download. Searching and planning happen on the phone. The regions are kept out of your iCloud backup; the trip and the recent searches go into it, like the settings of other apps. Delete the app and all of it is gone.
Reporting a problem with a ride
This is off until you turn it on: tap the i, open Help improve routes and turn on Show the flag on rides (in older versions: Flag problems and Record rides). The app then records every ride on your phone: your positions, the route and what the app does on the way. If you tap the flag during the ride, then when the ride ends the app keeps only the minutes around that flag (2 minutes before to 1 minute after) and nothing farther than 1 km from them. The rest of the ride is deleted; a ride without a flag leaves nothing.
A kept moment does not leave your phone by itself. Tap it to see it on the map and what it holds. Email to ByBike then opens an email to feedback@bybike.club in your own mail app, with the moment attached. Only when you send it do we get your email address and those few minutes of your ride, positions included. We use them only to understand and fix the problem, and delete them afterwards. Feel free to ask us to delete them sooner.
What goes over the network
Nothing when the app starts. Only when you open Regions does the app ask cdn.bybike.club (older versions of the app: bybike-cdn.enigmeta.com) for the list of regions, and then for the regions you choose. These requests carry no location, no account and nothing that identifies you. As with any request on the internet, the server does see your IP address and which kind of device and version of the app is asking.
The files are kept and sent for us by Cloudflare, Inc., which may keep technical logs to do so. We do not use this to find out who you are and do not combine it with anything.
The links in the Credits screen (the small i) open a website in Safari. Those websites have their own privacy policies.
Crash reports and TestFlight
If you chose in iOS to share analytics with app developers (Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements), Apple sends us crash reports without your name. Apple handles that, not ByBike.
If you test a beta through TestFlight, Apple shares with us the email address you were invited with, and the feedback and crash reports you send yourself.
The website and the web map
bybike.club is served by Cloudflare. The site sets no cookies, uses no analytics and loads nothing from other websites. Your choice of language is kept in your own browser.
The web map at /map/ keeps the regions you download in your browser's storage. They stay there until you remove them in the map or clear the site's data. The downloads go through the site's own address to the same storage at Cloudflare.
Legal basis
The only personal data we touch is your IP address and the technical details of a request to our servers. They are processed to deliver the files and keep the service secure: our legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR). If you mail us a problem with a ride, we process that mail because you asked us to (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR); you can withdraw that consent at any time.
Your rights
Because we keep nothing that tells us who you are, there is usually nothing to look up or delete. If you mailed us a ride, you can ask to see it or have it deleted. You can always ask us at hello@bybike.club. If you disagree with how we handle data, you can lodge a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority.
Children
ByBike collects nothing from children, except what someone mails us themselves.
Changes
If the app or the site starts doing something new with data, this page changes first, with a new date.
